The idea for the COVEN texture pack for Minecraft came from a love for atmospheric medieval packs like John Smith Legacy and Conquest. However, the creator Aetheris always felt something was missing: a higher resolution and better shader support without needing OptiFine. Patrix was an option but it felt too realistic. So he and his wife decided to create their own pack. She focused on developing plant and leaf textures, which give the pack its distinct visual style.
We asked the creator about the challenges faced during the development of the COVEN resource pack. Living through the war in Ukraine was one of the hardest obstacles, he shared. The early development coincided with the Russian attacks on the country’s power system, forcing him to work on a laptop running on battery power while waiting hours for electricity to return. The situation also impacted his mental health, but after starting treatment, he was able to continue with a renewed focus.
What Brings the COVEN Texture Pack to Minecraft?
The COVEN texture pack is designed to create a harmonious look across all types of biomes. From simple oak and birch forests to detailed builds like grand castles, every element fits together seamlessly with a consistent material palette. While the creator hasn’t yet built a demo world, the pack is already well-suited for most community maps, particularly those with a medieval theme. Additionally, Aetheris is committed to refining and improving the textures, ensuring a more consistent experience with each update.
One of the standout features of the Coven pack is the newly animated nether portal, which now flows downward. The obsidian frame is also 3D, a detail that’s reflected in many other blocks throughout the pack. For example, the bookshelves no longer appear flat; they now look fully three-dimensional, making them perfect for creating a library in Minecraft. The interior design options are equally impressive, with lanterns and soul lanterns that now look like they belong in a fantasy world. You’ll also be amazed by the enchanting table, which features numerous intricate details that make you wonder how so much can fit into just one block. And don’t think these are just stock images pulled from the internet like with other mods. Every texture in Coven was completely made from scratch, which is no small feat.
COVEN is available from 64x to 512x, but only the lowest resolution is free. It’s recommended to use the 256x version, as it is the most stable option. The 512x version is much heavier and may cause performance issues, especially with AMD graphics cards, which have a smaller limit on the texture atlas size.
Future goals for COVEN include completing the pack to cover all possible textures in Minecraft, including items, which the author plans to start developing soon. To achieve this, he’s been learning 3D modeling. Beyond that, he aims to continue improving the pack and eventually add support for various Minecraft mods, an area that many resource packs, especially HD packs, often overlook.

How To Install COVEN Texture Pack
- Download the COVEN texture pack for Minecraft from the file section below. Pick the file that matches your Minecraft edition and version.
- Launch Minecraft.
- Click "Options" on the main menu.
- In the options, go to the submenu “Resource Packs”.
- Click "Open Pack Folder" at the bottom left to see a folder titled "resourcepacks".
- Put the downloaded ZIP file into your "resourcepacks" folder. Or, just drag and drop it into the Minecraft window to add the pack.
- You will see the pack on the left side of the resource pack selection menu. Unzip the file if you can't see the pack.
- Hover over the pack thumbnail and click the arrow pointing right. If the game notifies you that the pack is made for a newer or older Minecraft version, simply click “Yes” to proceed. The textures will still work perfectly.
- Click "Done" and all assets have been loaded.
Best Shader Settings
To fully experience Coven, it’s essential to install a shader pack for PBR (Physically-Based Rendering) and Parallax blocks. The creator recommends using the unstable-development version of the Bliss shaders. To do this, install Bliss and create a text file with the same name as the shader file, for example, ‘Bliss-Shader-unstable-development.zip.txt’. Then, copy and paste the following lines into the file and move it to your shaderpacks folder:

If you run into any issues or prefer other shaders, you can opt for Complementary Reimagined shaders or BSL shaders, which offer a good mix of performance and graphics. Please note that COVEN doesn’t work with SEUS Renewed or SEUS PTGI.
For those with an extremely powerful GPU looking to push their PC to the limit, KAPPA shaders or Nostalgia/NostalgiaVX shaders might be an option, though expect potential lag as these require top-tier hardware. One thing to always keep in mind is to adjust the parallax depth, as the POM/PBR textures are one of the standout features of Coven.
