Shaders System Requirements
We used in our in-game tests the GPUs RTX 2060 and the RX 6500 XT, with the latter being part of the Radeon RX 6000 series, the second weakest card in that lineup. By the way, we tested all shaders on this site.
In the actual testing with a newly created Minecraft world, the performance with the i5 2400 and 8 GB RAM alongside an RTX 2060 was surprisingly good. Even with default shader settings, the game maintained an average frame rate above 60 FPS, with minimal visual impact. When the resolution was upscaled using DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), performance further improved, resulting in a doubled frame rate with little visual compromise. Pushing the game to the highest RT render chunks distance still maintained at least 60 FPS, indicating that even with an RTX 2060, players can use Minecraft shaders at their best.
However, the story was different with the AMD RX 6500 XT. The card, best suited for PCIe 4.0 systems, was tested on a PCIe 2.0 system, and while it could handle Minecraft shaders at the default settings, it didn't excel in ray tracing capabilities compared to the RTX 2060. Players with an RX 6500 XT could choose to drop the resolution to 720p and enable Radeon Super Resolution to achieve a sharper look and an average frame rate of 30 FPS, though occasional drops were expected. Maxing out the game with the RX 6500 XT at the highest RT render distance resulted in frame rates near 30 FPS but with frequent drops into the low 20s, making it less ideal for most players.
In conclusion, the minimum suggested requirements for simple Minecraft shaders aren't the most demanding, but they are somewhat flexible. Players with a system similar to the tested i5 2400 and an RTX 2060 or better should be able to enjoy the stunning ray-tracing shader effects without much trouble. Those with AMD RX 6500 XT might have to make some compromises to achieve high FPS with the best Minecraft shaders.
