Lux shaders could be a great option if you want a rather calming vibe for your overworld experience. The reason is because this shader comes with a nice, muted color unlike other mods that tend to brighten the scene or produce more color vibrancy. Even so, Lux shader still gives its charm through eye-pleasing color contrast, making the scenery look crisp and clear.
Based on the BSL shaders, you can combine this shader with any texture pack that is compatible with BSL such as RealisCraft, MineBricks, or Pixlli. That is because it heavily relies on the BSL shader to perform extremely well. It is a good match if you want to have a more subtle look to your overworld appearance. However, please note that it requires a mid to high-end machine to run both of them well.
By the way, the project began at the request of a small YouTuber called Viiki, who wanted minor adjustments to the original shader pack. Initially developed as a small-scale customization for a specific need, the pack eventually became a standalone project available for public use.
What Do Lux Shaders Bring to Minecraft?
Lux shader doesn’t try to make your Minecraft look realistic. Instead, it brings a moody, calming, and subtle look to your surroundings. If you like playing Minecraft at nighttime in a dark room, this shader with a calming aesthetic gives a more cinematic and immersive look to your world.
The shader also comes with subtle animations that make the environment feel more alive. You can really see the effect on trees, grass, and water. For the body of water, you can also see the reflection of the cloud along with its smooth waving movement back and forth.
There will be no longer murky water beneath the surface. It is replaced with a clearer view of the environment without removing the depth. Underwater exploration gets more exciting with the new view from Lux shader pack. While the overworld looks muted, the underground gets brighter and more contrasty. It is possible to see better as it is not as dark, especially near light sources such as lava or glowstone.
If you like exploring the nether, you can also see the edge of an island or a map. You will not explore in a pitch-dark environment anymore, but the horror vibes are definitely still there. This ensures a viable journey without sacrificing too much visuals. If you like spooky lighting, try the Insanity shaders or Spooklementary shaders.
The bigger light sources such as the sun and moon are not in the form of blocks anymore. They look like a diffused circle, making them look a little more realistic. However, when it comes to a shader during sunset or sunrise, the Lux shader introduces a very dramatic impression with its shadow. Despite those things, the highlighted part looks muted, giving a low-contrast scene unlike how it looks underground.
Things to Note
The developer of this shader wants to accommodate all kinds of users. However, due to its nature as a shader, it still requires a decent power of graphical processing units. That means you still need a machine with decent specifications to play Minecraft with Lux smoothly.
In the Lux shaders settings for Minecraft, you’ll find a range of features that might seem overwhelming at first, but the user-friendly GUI makes it straightforward. You can choose between Low, Medium, High, and Ultra quality levels with a simple click, and the configurations will adjust automatically. This makes setting up the pack easy, even for beginners. The developer uses emerging techniques, ensuring the Lux pack is up-to-date and optimized for modern standards. Unlike older packs like KUDA or projectLUMA, the project receives regular updates. Bugs are quickly fixed thanks to a GitHub issue tracker where players can report problems.
