Overview of New 1.20.5 Texture Packs
Unlike many other minor updates for Minecraft in the past, version 1.20.5 brings a lot of new content. One important system requirement change to note is that you now need a 64-bit operating system to play the Java Edition. It ensures better performance with higher FPS and more stability for PC players. This requirement doesn’t apply to Bedrock (MCPE) players, but there’s still plenty of news about new textures for them too.
The update, which was released in April 2024, also introduces new experimental features for Bedrock. When choosing your MCPE resource pack for Minecraft 1.20.5, make sure it includes graphics for bogged, vault, breeze rods, wind charges, and the mace.
Best Texture Packs for Minecraft 1.20.5
While some packs claim to be fully compatible with this release, it’s not uncommon to find a few missing elements here and there. That’s why we’ve taken the time to separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of graphics. Here, we present the top three best texture packs for 1.20.5:
1. Faithful 1.20.5
Faithful 1.20.5 remains an all-time classic, consistently updated for nearly 15 years now. Thanks to a dedicated development team, you can be sure that all the essential assets are included. This texture set is a fantastic compromise for vanilla players who desire a bit more “realism” in the default style.
2. MS Painted 1.20.5
Compared to Faithful 32x, MS Painted 1.20.5 is a relatively new project with a fresh design. Developed by Stridey, this pack receives continuous updates with new HD blocks, items, and mobs from snapshots, ensuring compatibility with 1.20.5. A word of caution: MS Painted is known for its cursed style which makes it stand out. It’s a bit crazier than the other ones from our list.
3. XRay 1.20.5
Rounding out our top three is XRay 1.20.5, an unusual yet extremely popular choice. This pack might raise some eyebrows due to its specific cheating purpose: making it incredibly easy to find ores. With XRay Ultimate, mining becomes almost effortless in singleplayer and multiplayer, as ores and mineral blocks stand out clearly against the background. Since no new blocks were added to caves and the underground in 1.20.5, XRay continues to perform flawlessly.
