Minecraft 1.20.3 Features
The development of Minecraft 1.20.3 began back in October and extended into December 2023. Mojang released in this time eight snapshots, four pre-releases, and one release candidate for 1.20.3. Let's talk about all the changes and new features. Did you catch the new sounds for the decorated pot? Break, smash, and a fresh step sound when walking on top of it. It improves the sounds in texture packs for 1.20.3.
On top of that, the copper bulb had a significant tweak. It's a block that emits light and can switch its illumination on and off using Redstone pulses. The delay of one game tick was removed, turning it into a lightning-fast 20 HZ clock. This means it updates much quicker, allowing for some fascinating contraptions. It might seem like a downside initially, but the increased speed opens up new possibilities. Please note that this is an experimental addition.
Helpful changes for Nerds
Minecraft Trails and Tales also brings a small but helpful change for nerds. The grass is now officially grass. This tweak might seem minor, but it avoids confusion when using commands. Imagine typing "grass" in the chat and getting short grass instead of regular grass blocks. A small victory for clarity that was not available in 1.20!
Another change is that the wind charge attack has been upgraded to break decorated pots, dripstone, and chorus flowers. You'll witness the destruction as you drop into survival. Oh, and the breeze's levitation effect now allows them to attack players in mid-air, making encounters more dynamic. The focus is on fixes and tweaks related to breezes. They can now attack players even in deep water, and they won't get pacified if captured in a boat or minecart.
Minecraft Texture Packs for 1.20.3
One of the highlights of Minecraft 1.20.3 texture packs is the addition of block models, item models, and block state definitions for the newly introduced "crafter". This expands the creative possibilities for players and pixel artists. Some new files are chiseled_copper, copper_grate, copper_bulb, copper_door, copper_trapdoor, tuff_stairs, and many more. To add more uniqueness to the Trails and Tales blocks mentioned, 1.20.3 adds sprites for each of them. The blocks, such as chiseled_copper, copper_grate, and tuff_bricks, now have distinctive textures.
Also, the update brings a uniform font refresh in 1.20.3 texture packs, now utilizing Unifont 15.1.04 instead of the previous 15.0.06 version. Furthermore, the only supported texture format moving forward is .png, streamlining the resource pack creation process. Additionally, the patch brings a fresh look to the bat entity with an updated bat.png in pack files, reflecting the changes in the bat model.
Server Resource Pack in 1.20.3
Minecraft 1.20.3 brings significant changes in how texture packs are managed. The update impacts downloaded/world texture packs, Realms resource packs, and those controlled by dedicated servers. The UI Download screen has been replaced with a toast notification, offering a cleaner and more intuitive interface. No longer do you log in and wait for 1.20.3 resource packs to download while standing defenseless in the world. Instead, you get a handy popup showing the download progress. Once complete, you're logged into the server with the resource pack applied. Smart, right? Plus, it seems you can now apply multiple 1.20.3 texture packs on a server or realm simultaneously.
Resource pack application now initiates alongside chunk loading, enhancing the synchronization between the game world and its custom textures for 1.20.3. Downloaded packs are stored in a dedicated downloads directory, and unlike before, files in this directory are no longer automatically cleaned. Instead, you can maintain a more extensive collection of online packs.
Another very important change is the new pack_format. It is a version number used to group Minecraft versions with compatible texture files. In 1.20.3, the new pack_format is 22. And that's it for the most important changes and features in Minecraft 1.20.3! If you're hungry for more Minecraft news and texture packs, don't forget to bookmark this page in your browser.
