The Parallax PBR texture pack takes Minecraft to a whole new level of high resolution. It delivers a photorealistic experience, making blocks look incredibly lifelike. While the textures are modern, they also remove unnecessary noise and micro details, which is a refreshing change. Many older resource packs from a decade ago often suffer from these distracting micro details, making the first 2048x packs look unappealing. It’s great to see a texture pack that prioritizes clarity and avoids pixel clutter.
The creator, MSameedC, shared with us that he first encountered mods and shaders in 2020 and was immediately impressed. We can relate, as we’ve been reviewing various Minecraft extensions for years. While we launched a website to become part of the massive Minecraft community, MSameedC took a different path, deciding to create his own resource packs. In the early days, he worked under a different nickname.
What Does the Parallax PBR Texture Pack Look Like?
When we launched our single-player world with the pack for the first time, we were truly amazed. The block surfaces suddenly became smooth and detailed. A great example is the planks, which now have many small, distinct slats. Compared to the default planks, it’s like night and day. They look nothing like the original. Thanks to the Parallax PBR texture pack, wooden blocks are perfect for flooring in modern mansions.
However, the only downside is that some textures are still missing, which limits the number of blocks you can use if you want a cohesive look. Unlike Vanilla packs like Stay True, where the transition to default blocks is seamless, the contrast here is quite strong. That’s why we recommend starting with the free demo at a 128x resolution. You can then upgrade to 256x, 512x and 1024x resolutions.
Development Challenges
It’s interesting to note that the developer from Pakistan previously posted a few screenshots of this pack on our Discord channel. By the way, you can do that too whether you’re developing something for Minecraft or just want to chat. Aetheris, the creator of the COVEN texture pack, replied to the screenshots, pointing out that it is impossible to create a 512x+ full pack due to the game engine’s limitations. That’s because the game writes all the textures in one continuous file, and the video card has texture limits. The maximum size of the total texture atlas for AMD is 16k and for NVIDIA 32k. So you have a very small limit for 2k textures. COVEN 512x is already unplayable on AMD graphics cards. This is incredibly frustrating, as both creators have invested a huge amount of time into their projects. Hopefully, Mojang will one day come up with a helpful solution.
These limitations have been the biggest challenges in the development of Parallax PBR. Maintaining the quality and performance of the texture pack has been a major hurdle that the creator is still working to overcome. Slowly but surely, he has been improving his skills and making the necessary changes to Parallax PBR to meet these goals. With each update, the textures are further optimized to keep FPS as high as possible.
Future Plans for Parallax PBR
Looking ahead, there’s plenty to be excited about with the Parallax PBR resource pack. The main goal is, of course, to be completed and provide a smooth and consistent experience, maintain its look on lower resolutions, and be able to run on all types of setups. Perhaps one day it might even be available in the Bedrock Marketplace, but for that to happen, Microsoft and Mojang would first need to address the technical requirements.
